This policy explains how App Maxx (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise processes personal information when you use MealMaxx — the app, this website, and any related services (together, the “Services”).
The short version. We collect what the app needs to plan your meals and price your groceries, and nothing else. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising. We do not track you across other apps or websites. There are no advertising identifiers in the app, and the only analytics is a small fixed set of feature-usage events we use to improve the product.
1. What's new in this version
8 September 2026. Corrections and one product change. The app no longer asks how you'd like meals picked; instead, during onboarding you can tap meals that look good, and those are saved as favourite meals on your account — so this policy now says "favourite meals" where it said "meal-picks preference". This version also describes two things that were always part of the app but were missing from — or wrongly denied by — earlier versions of this page: the small fixed set of feature-usage analytics events, and the subscription status our subscription processor holds. Neither collection is new; the description of them is, and it should have been here from the start.
7 September 2026. MealMaxx no longer tracks nutrition, so we stopped collecting the information that fed it. The app no longer asks for — or stores — your height, weight, date of birth, sex, activity level, weight history, or calculated calorie and macro targets, and this policy no longer describes them. Meals still show nutrition information; nothing about you is measured against it. Your dietary preference (how you'd like meals picked), allergens and diets are still collected, to filter and rank recipes.
13 August 2026. Added detail on two things the app does that weren't described before: the grocery prices saved from receipts you scan, and the in-app Report a bug or idea feature, including the diagnostics it attaches.
Before that, this was the first published version. When we make material changes we'll summarise them here and update the dates above.
2. Personal information we collect
Information you provide directly
- Account details — your email address, your name, and a user ID issued by our authentication provider. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive these from that provider; we never see your password.
- Food and household information — your meal plan, cooking history, pantry contents and leftovers, your favourite meals (including any you tap as looking good during onboarding), dietary preferences, allergens, dislikes and favourite cuisines, household size, weekly food budget, and the grocery stores you select. We do not collect body measurements: no height, weight, date of birth, sex, or activity level, and no weight or intake history.
- Photos you choose to scan — when you scan a receipt or your pantry, the photo you capture or select is processed so the items and prices can be read for you. We only ever access photos you explicitly capture or pick, never your photo library as a whole.
- Grocery prices from your receipts — when you scan a receipt and confirm the lines, we save the individual prices you paid (the item, the price, the store, your postal code and the date) to your account, so the app can quote real prices from your store and that accuracy follows you to a new phone. Your receipts themselves stay on your device — the record of what you bought together on one trip, and what the trip cost in total, is never uploaded.
- Messages you send us — if you contact support, we keep what you send and our reply.
- Bug reports and ideas — when you use Profile → Report a bug or idea, we receive the message you write plus basic diagnostics that help us reproduce the problem: your app version and build number, your iOS version, your device model, your locale, and your account ID. The message is a free-text field, so please don't put anything sensitive in it.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location — if you grant location access, or type in a postal code, we store your postal code, city and region, plus coordinates rounded to roughly one kilometre. We deliberately do not store or transmit your precise GPS position. It's used only to find grocery stores near you and to localise prices. You can decline location access and enter a postal code manually instead; the app works either way.
- App usage events — a small, fixed set of events recording which features you use: for example that an onboarding step was completed, a meal was cooked, or a receipt was scanned, tied to your account ID. There is no automatic screen capture and no session recording — the app can only send events from this deliberate list. We use them to understand which features work and to improve the product, never for advertising.
- Subscription status — whether your MealMaxx trial or subscription is active, which plan it is, and when it renews. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your card details; our subscription processor reports your entitlement state to us, keyed by your account ID.
- Basic technical data needed to serve requests securely, such as the IP address a request comes from.
Information from third parties
- Sign-in providers. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Google, that provider confirms your identity to us and shares the name and email address associated with the sign-in.
What we do not collect
No advertising identifiers, no tracking across other apps or websites, no automatic screen or session recording, no browsing history, no contacts, no precise GPS, and no payment card details.
3. How we use personal information
- To build meal plans, shopping lists, and price estimates for the stores you shop at
- To rank and recommend meals that fit your preferences, dietary needs, and budget
- To read receipts and pantry photos so items and prices are entered for you
- To sync your account across your devices
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests
- To understand which features are used, so we can improve them
- To keep the Services secure, prevent abuse of our servers, and debug problems
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
We use your information only to operate the features you're using. We do not use it to profile you for advertising, and we do not use your dietary or allergen information for marketing.
4. How we disclose personal information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. We disclose it only in the following circumstances, and only to the extent needed:
| Category of recipient | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting and authentication providers | Account details, and your synced profile, plan, pantry, and the grocery prices learned from your receipts | To authenticate you, store your data, and run our servers |
| Automated image recognition and pricing providers | Receipt and pantry photos, grocery item names, store name, and postal code | To read your photos and estimate prices |
| Analytics provider | The feature-usage events described in section 2, your account ID, and the IP address requests come from | To measure which features are used so we can improve the product |
| Subscription processor | Your account ID and your App Store subscription state (plan, trial, renewal status) — never your payment details, which stay with Apple | To unlock the app for subscribers and support billing questions |
| Sign-in providers | The sign-in request itself | Only if you choose to sign in with that provider |
| Professional and technical advisers | Only what a specific matter requires | Legal, accounting, and security support |
These are service providers acting on our instructions, under contracts that limit what they may do with your information. Under our agreements with them, your photos are not used to train their models.
We describe recipients by category rather than by name so that this policy stays accurate as providers change. If you want to know the specific companies involved, email us and we'll tell you.
We may also disclose information where we're legally required to, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case this policy travels with the data.
5. Dietary and health-related information
MealMaxx does not collect body measurements and does not track what you eat against any target. The health-adjacent information we do hold — your allergens and dietary restrictions — is used solely to keep those ingredients out of your plans and to rank recipes. It is not shared with advertisers, insurers, or employers, and is not used for any purpose other than operating the features you use.
MealMaxx is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. The nutrition figures shown on meals are informational estimates computed from their ingredients. Talk to a qualified professional before making significant changes to your diet.
6. International transfers
We're based in the United States, and the providers who process data for us may operate in the United States and elsewhere. If you use MealMaxx from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in countries whose data protection laws may differ from your own.
Where the law requires a transfer safeguard — for example for information moving out of the EEA or UK — we rely on appropriate mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. How we protect your information
Data in transit is encrypted with standard HTTPS/TLS. Requests to our servers are authenticated, so only signed-in users of the app can make them and only you can reach your synced data.
No system is perfectly secure, but we limit collection to what the features actually need — which is why, for example, we coarsen location rather than storing your exact position.
8. How we retain your information
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, the account and the data associated with it are removed; deletion is permanent.
Some information lives only on your device — your local price cache, and your receipt history (the record of each shopping trip and its total) — and is removed when you delete the app. It is not uploaded and cannot be recovered.
We may retain a limited amount of information for longer where we need it to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.
9. Your privacy rights
Delete your account at any time. In the app, go to Profile → Delete account — it's also offered on the subscription screen, so you can delete your account even if your access has lapsed. This removes your account and the data associated with it. Deletion is permanent.
Control permissions. Camera and location access can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings. The app remains usable without either.
Access, correct, or export your data. Most of it is directly viewable and editable in the app. For anything else, contact us at mealmaxxsupport@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights — including to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We honour these requests regardless of where you live. Email mealmaxxsupport@gmail.com and we'll respond within the time your local law requires. We won't discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
10. Additional information for certain jurisdictions
California (CCPA/CPRA)
In the past twelve months we have collected the categories of personal information described in section 2: identifiers, dietary and allergen information, commercial information about your food purchases and plans, approximate geolocation, photographs you scan, product-interaction data about how you use the app, and limited internet or network activity information (the technical data needed to serve requests, and the feature-usage events described in section 2). (Earlier pre-release versions also collected body measurements; that collection has ended and any such data is removed with your account.) The sources, purposes, and recipient categories for each are set out in sections 2 to 4.
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we have not done so in the past twelve months. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. You have the right to know, delete, correct, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information — though we already limit our use of it to operating the app.
EEA and UK (GDPR)
Our legal bases for processing are performance of a contract (providing the app you asked for), your consent for optional permissions such as camera and location — which you can withdraw at any time — and our legitimate interests in keeping the Services secure and preventing abuse.
Allergen and dietary information can qualify as special category (health) data; where that classification applies, we rely on your explicit consent, given when you enter it during onboarding or in Profile, and you can withdraw it by removing the entries or deleting your account.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Canada
We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your knowledge and consent, for the purposes set out in this policy, and only to the extent those purposes require.
11. Children
MealMaxx is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact mealmaxxsupport@gmail.com and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we'll update the dates at the top, summarise them under “What's new in this version”, and where appropriate notify you in the app. Continuing to use MealMaxx after a change means you accept the updated policy.
